Discover the Jabugo mountain range in 6 days

DAY 01: SEVILLA - CASTANO DEL ROBLEDO

From Seville we will move to the heart of the  Aracena Natural Park, Castano del Robledo, declared Artistic Historical set. Rural accommodation.

 

DAY 02: ROUTE OF THE MURTIGAS RIVER

(Level: Medium Low 5 to 7 hours). A  simple tour with very gentle slopes, we start from Castaño del Robledo. We walk along the shore of Jabugo, an ecosystem where we can find ash trees, willows, cherry trees and a paved road made during the eighteenth century  that connects  Galaroza, one of the populations most  important of the moutain range.

We continue our route to Fuenteheridos, with the possibility of entering into the forest on horseback as old brigands (optional). We have a  dip in the pool of this pretty village to regain strength and face the most panoramic part of the way, surrounding the known hill of the chestnut tree.  We will arrive at our accommodation in the afternoon.

DAY 03: SMUGGLERS ROUTE

(Level: Low - 5 hours). Today we approach Navahermosa to walk between the villages of Galaroza Valdelarco and the beautiful valley Talenque. We admire a landscape of steep gorges and broad valleys to explore, then stop at the village road and stroll among the streets of whitewashed houses. We go by a rocky path flanked by slopes covered with cork oaks until we get back to Castaño del Robledo by a river.

 In the afternoon, we approach Almonaster la Real, one of the most special and best preserved villages in Andalusia. Almonaster Mosque was declared as a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931, and is a set of exceptional value, being the only mosque in Spain which remained almost intact until the present day in an rural area.  Simple and complex at the same time, it is a place that quiets the sound of its fountain and sunsets. Complete day.

DAY 04: ROUTE OF THE CASTAÑOS

(Level: Medium Low 5 to 7 hours). Today we take an old road that leads us to Alájar, between old stone walls and huge chestnut trees. We see valleys closed by mountains of oaks, pale green tones of olive and brown land under vines, then we are entering the Calabacino, a small paradise we go through without a trace. The Peña de Arias Montano left us on the left, at the top, and follow the path towards Alájar, a spectacular village which is one of the manifestations of popular architecture best preserved of the moutain range.

 Here are several places where you can drink something. From Alájar we move into  some forests around the rivers. We reach the third village on our itinerary today: Linares de la Sierra, a small village of white streets which are the Llanos, mosaics of white and black stones decorating entrance of houses. We will have the feeling of going back in time and see how life could be in these villages centuries ago. We go back to Castaño in the afternoon.

DAY 05: NAVAHERMOSA - LOS MARINES - ARACENA

 (Level: Low - 5 hours). We begin this day watching the chestnuts and oaks while approaching the house Villa Onuba, a magical place where we find one of the gardens that has the most important diversity of plant of the moutain range: Japanese willows, African cedars, American redwoods... a little rest in its shade and continue route to Los Marines. We walk between farms devoted to pastures and small orchards in the lower areas, so we will have the opportunity to observe the placid life of the Iberian pig in their natural environment. In the afternoon, we approach the historical Aracena, capital of the region, where you can stroll through its pretty full of monuments old town, visit the ruins of a thirteenth-century castle or explore the depths of the Cave of Wonders, one of the most interesting karst formations of Spain. Complete day.

DAY 06: TRANSFER TO SEVILLA

In the morning, on the way to Seville, we visit the impressive Rio Tinto mines, which were the world's largest  mines  open pit. A look at the depth of the heart of the earth in a place of extraterrestrials airs.

We back back to  Seville and  end of the program.
